Synopsis

“Anyone who raises himself up will be humbled, and anyone who humbles himself will be raised up.” Mathew 23: 1

Set against the unforgiving backdrop of the Old West, The Hourglass of El Diablo unfolds in a time when the land was as harsh as the gunslingers who roamed it, instilling fear in all who dared cross their path. This is the world young Jed inhabits, a place where survival often means enduring the unimaginable.

After the sudden death of his mother, Jed faces the wrath of his father, a man consumed by grief and anger. Amidst this turmoil, Jed finds solace in a young colt whose mother dies during birth. Through nurturing this helpless creature, Jed experiences the pure joy of loving and being loved for the first time.

Desperate to escape his father’s cruelty, Jed secures a job at the local livery stable, where he finds a brief reprieve from his troubled home life. One fateful evening, his father vanishes without warning, liberating Jed from the cycle of abuse. As he seeks a deeper connection, Jed encounters the enigmatic figure of the devil himself, forming an unlikely friendship that promises both wealth and companionship.

The partnership with this mysterious entity brings Jed unimaginable riches, transforming his life in ways he never dreamed possible. Yet, the allure of prosperity comes at a steep price—one that ultimately demands the sacrifice of everything he holds dear, including the one creature that taught him the true meaning of love.

In The Hourglass of El Diablo, readers are drawn into a gripping narrative of ambition, redemption, and the consequences of choices made in the pursuit of happiness. This evocative tale captures the spirit of the West, exploring themes of love, loss, and the indomitable human will to find one’s place in a world of uncertainty.

The Adios

I was there the day you died, watching from the hotel balcony.

I’m sorry for not coming to see you sooner. It’s a nice, beautiful day. The rain cleared out last night, so the sky is crystal blue. I wish you were here to enjoy it with me.

I’ve spent years trying to cover my guilt for disobeying your orders. We argued that day in the kitchen when you were ordered to end the ranchers’ feud. It changed my life in unimaginable ways. I followed in your footsteps, Benjamen, and became a US Marshal.
